Our calves are pastured and, at times are supplemented with GMO-free grains that we grind in small batches in our 1965 Gehl Mixer and hand-feed in the pasture in portable troughs. The images below reflect both the feed-making process as well as what "pastured and grain supplemented" really looks like. Our calves receive all the benefits of grassfed beef with just enough grain to make them excited to follow us - salad every day with a cupcake most nights. What we know is that it makes for the best-tasting beef around.
Our home base is Cheerful Ridge Farm, located in Vernon Hill, Virginia. The below slideshow shows our farm and operations at different times of the year. Many of the pictures have captions that you can hover over to learn more about what is in the picture.
Gregory Family Farms is fairly unique in that our beef is always pastured during the grazing season but lightly supplemented with GMO-free grains that we grind on our farm. During the last 60-90 days prior to their processing appointment, our animals are supplemented with grain each day in troughs that are rotated with their pasture rotation. This gives them enough extra 'delicious' calories to help develop extra marbling as well as finishing at a young, tender age, but preserves both the nutritional benefits of a pastured diet as well as the digestive effects of a grass-based rumen. The pictures below show our commitment to small batch grains, family-friendly farming, and just how 'pastured and grain supplemented' operates.
